Decline and Fall: Harvesting Douglas Fir at Hepple

While of course above the waterline Hepple sails majestically, in the paddling department there are days where there is a feeling of inevitable decline.

One recent Douglas harvest was a case in point. If you start by looking amateur, things will probably degenerate fast.

Did it all turn out all right?  The drying process is very tricky to get right, conditions need to be absolutely perfect for the very particular taste we are searching for.  Were they perfect this time? In a word, no.  The whole harvest got chucked.

Oh well. Back to the woods with a chainsaw.
